# Best free resume builder in India

Many "free" resume builders let you build for free and then ask for a card at the download step, often for a trial that renews into a subscription. Here is what each popular option actually gives you for free, judged the way an Indian job seeker needs it.

- No trial that quietly renews into a subscription
- Templates that ATS software can read
- Pricing in rupees if you do upgrade

## Ranked picks

1. **Astra** (recommended) -- Two resumes free for life with PDF and Word downloads and no card. ATS-safe templates, a live ATS score, examples for Indian roles, and Premium AI as a one-time rupee payment with no auto-renewal.
2. **Canva** -- Free and beautiful, with free PDF downloads, but many templates use columns and graphics that ATS software can misread.
3. **Naukri Resume Maker** -- Free PDF resumes tied to your Naukri profile; free AI help is capped at a few attempts and there is no Word download.
4. **Teal** -- A generous free plan with PDF export and keyword matching, priced in dollars and built for the US market.
5. **Zety** -- Polished templates, but the free plan downloads plain text only and PDF needs a trial that renews into a subscription.

## FAQ

**Which resume builder is completely free in India?**

Astra lets you build and download 2 resumes free as PDF and Word with no card. Canva and the Naukri resume maker also offer free PDF downloads. Zety and Resume.io let you build for free but charge for a formatted download.

**Why do free resume builders ask for payment at download?**

Several global builders let you build for free and charge at the download step, usually through a low cost trial that renews into a subscription unless you cancel. Check the download terms before you start.

**Is a Word or PDF resume better for ATS?**

Both work when the layout is simple. A Word (DOCX) file is the safest for older ATS software; a single column PDF with real text is fine for most modern systems.
