# Software Engineer Resume Template

Once you have a year or two of work, experience leads the page and every bullet should show impact: what you built, how big it was and what changed. This template keeps that front and centre in a clean, ATS-safe layout.

- **Languages:** Java, Go, Python, TypeScript, SQL
- **Systems:** REST APIs, Microservices, System Design, Caching, Message Queues
- **Tools:** Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka

## Weak vs strong resume bullets

- Weak: Worked on the payments service.
Strong: Rebuilt the refund service in Go, cutting p95 latency from 820 ms to 310 ms for 2 lakh daily refunds.
- Weak: Responsible for code reviews and mentoring.
Strong: Reviewed 300+ pull requests and onboarded 3 new engineers, who shipped to production in their first two weeks.
- Weak: Improved system performance.
Strong: Added a Redis cache in front of the catalogue API, cutting database reads by 60% at peak.

## Tips for a Software Engineer resume

- Lead every bullet with a verb and end it with a number: latency, users, money, time saved.
- Keep the stack in the skills section and in the bullets where you used it. ATS filters read both.
- Drop college projects once you have two years of work, unless one is genuinely impressive.
- Name the scale you worked at: requests per second, users, data size.
- Stay on one page until about 5 years of experience.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I show impact on a software engineer resume?

Pair each change you made with a measured result: faster responses, fewer incidents, more users, lower cost. If you do not have exact numbers, use honest estimates you can explain in an interview.

### Should I include a projects section with work experience?

Only if the project shows something your job does not, such as a language or domain you want to move into. Otherwise give that space to work bullets.

### What is the best resume format for an SDE 2 role?

Reverse chronological, one page, single column, with experience first and a short skills section. That is what this template uses and what ATS systems parse best.
